About Me

My name is Kat Hurdley, and I am a 34 year old designer based in Sheffield.

About Willowbrook Artistry

I have always loved jewellery - I'm a bit of a magpie and in particular I love Swarovski crystals!  I began making jewellery in 2011, because I couldn't find what I wanted to wear in the shops.  After making presents for friends and family and sharing some designs with them, I decided to do my first craft fair.  In January 2012, I began selling online through Etsy and became thoroughly hooked.  I learnt as I went along, teaching myself through books, online information and video tutorials.

My business grew faster than I could have expected, and I wanted to learn new skills and move more into silversmithing.  After attending a few courses at the London Jewellery School, I became a member of a Jewellery Co-operative based at Bank Street Arts in Sheffield, and began making wedding rings and other keepsake jewellery.

My designs are inspired by the things I like to wear, and presents I've designed for people.  I love finding ways to put personal twists on traditional designs, and make things with real meaning.  Custom orders make up a large part of my work - I want to make pieces that will mean something and be treasured for years to come, whether that's a birthstone bracelet, or a necklace with a child or relative's name on, or personalised bridal jewellery.  Most of all, I am very open minded and always looking for inspiration from everything I do!  I love a challenge, so I tend to come up with the designs first, then work out if and how it's possible!

About me

I live in Sheffield with my fiancé Joe, and our three cats, Millie and Jess, and latest addition, Freddie.  I was a primary school teacher up until last year, when I made the move into web development!  I now work for a company in Sheffield, as well as some freelance work.

My undergraduate degree was in Music and I also play in a number of ceilidh bands, performing at weddings, reeling balls and other events across the country.  I also love to travel, and have been lucky enough to have had the opportunity over the last few years to visit a number of countries to play music, including Ireland, Estonia, The Netherlands, Malta and Iceland, with a trip to Norway coming up in February.  I'm currently touring with the Joshua Burnell Band which has been amazing!

I enjoy all things creative and dabble in a number of other crafts from time to time including knitting, sewing and hand lettering.  I'm also an avid gamer!
